The economy is so bad here in Michigan that there are over qualified people who need jobs to feed their families, so why in the world would they give a job to someone that they perceive to be a spoiled housewife that just wants to "get out of the house"? I totally get it, but still think it sucks.
I don't have to work but darn it, I want a bunch of cash for our trip next year. I want to be able to take the boys places (Helloooo. Paris.) and to treat Andre and Valeria to things like they did for us when they were here.
So now I am trying to think of other ways that I can make money.
Some of the things I have heard Dave Ramsey talk about are cutting grass, delivering pizza and delivering newspapers.
Alex wants to go around on Saturday mornings and cut grass, but his brothers and friends won't go with him - so I offered to go. We would have gone this morning but he is helping the neighbor move - $30 each for he and Christian. I think we will make some flyers and see what happens.
Delivering pizza is out because gas is $4.10 a gallon. My van does not get good enough gas mileage to even consider it.
Pretty sure that delivering newspapers is out, too. At our old house the adult couple who delivered it were fired so that the route could be given to kids. I will call and see, though.
I am also spending my time saving the money we make. I have cut the grocery budget (more on that later) and we are working on the utility bills.
Any more ideas for making or saving money?

I hear you on the job thing Krista. I hire 3 people a week, year round, and have every week for the year and a half I have been at Mcd's. Right now I get almost 50 applications a week for the 3 jobs I have to offer.
For me, I would rather hire the going back to work housewife than the "out of a job" gal. The reason is simple; housewife has decided to work and will start enjoying the cash and keep working. Out of a job gal is applying everywhere, and taking my job to get a check while she waits for "something better."
The economy sucks here, and I do not see it getting any better anytime soon.
Good luck with your hunt.
PS-- worst time to apply for minimum wage jobs is summer when all the teens/college kids are working. Come September those employers will be desperate for "day ladies".

That is what Marty says, too. He has had too many people quit because the job they really wanted has come through.
During the interview she kept going on and on about how she thought that it was great that a stay at home mom was reentering the workforce, that she knew that being a mom was a hard job, blah, blah, blah. I guess there was someone better.
I am thinking that I will just see what I can make over the summer at lawn mowing and other odd jobs and then try again in the fall. That will still give me plenty of time to make some fun money. I hope. lol
I don't see it getting better, either. I am afraid to see how much worse it can get, though.
